This morning I finally had half an hour to flick through this month's Natural Health magazine and in it was an article about massage. Massage can be a very powerful tool to relax and soothe the body but in this article they were looking at the deeper benefits to the body not only physically but emotionally too. Being a holistic therapist as well as a beautician I found this viewpoint very interesting. My experience over the years has led me to similar conclusions. I believe that the body has the means to heal itself of anything. Unfortunately modern day life is so stressful and demanding the body becomes blocked and sometimes doesn't communicate with the brain as efficiently. It is a bit like trying to listen to the radio when it isn't tuned in properly. The information is unclear and confused and sometimes impossible to understand. The blockages can interfere with the repair and healing of the body and this is why sometimes we don't appreciate how run down we are until we relax maybe on holiday or after being unwell with a cold. To stay healthy and heal the body needs to keep everything working in harmony and balance but if the communication with the brain is poor then the messages that the body needs help may not get through and the repair and healing may not be as effective or happen at all.
I have recently completed a course in a specialised form of massage called Pindakarma. Inspired by the ancient art of healing, Ayurveda, this powerful treatment is designed to detoxify the body. It is a very uplifting massage that refreshes and rejuvenates on all levels both emotionally and physically.
During the treatment the feet are cleansed, polished and pampered with a Himalayan salt scrub and then warm aromatic oils are drizzled on the body and massaged into the skin with "Pindas" - hot herbs encased in a muslin bag. The fusion of hot herbs, oils and heat melt away tension, smooth and soften the skin, induce deep rest whilst purifying the whole body. The detoxifying nature of this treatment may particularly help people with poor circulation, stress & tension, water retention, cellulite, skin conditions, low energy levels, poor digestion and the effects of jet lag and may compliment and assist any detox programme you may be following*.
If you are interested in having a Pindakarma treatment please call me on 01276 506908. Treatment takes 90 minutes and costs £65. I also offer a Pindakarma Facial using the pindas to massage and detoxify the face and incorporating the beautiful the Paul Penders product range - £40.
*Full health screening questionnaire is required as medical restrictions apply. This treatment is specifically formulated to have a detoxifying effect on the body and should not be confused with the Thai Herbal Compress method.
